Farm in a Barrel is a simple, effective tool to help someone in need start a backyard farming business. Everything needed to set up a farm is packed into a 55 gallon drum barrel and can be set up in a few hours. The project relies on local economies for inputs and local leadership for management. WHAT’S IN IT?

Each Farm in a Barrel system includes a 55 gallon drum barrel packed with everything you need to set up your business and begin farming.

  • Lightweight, galvanized steel rods
  • Chicken wire
  • Durable nylon cover
  • Feeder and waterer
  • All assembly tools needed

HOW DOES IT WORK?

1.

A barrel gets sponsored by a donor or donor group.

2.

The barrel gets sent overseas to someone in need.

3.

The barrel is assembled and inputs are ordered.

4.

Someone in need now has a sustainable business to run!

LAUNCHING IN GHANA

 

In 2013, Farm in a Barrel was piloted for the first time overseas in Ghana, West Africa. 10 barrels were sent over and offered on a microloan basis to beneficiaries.

To date, 50 Farm in a Barrels are in Ghana and the project is blossoming. We are currently considering building a trade school to produce future systems in country. Stay tuned!
